The Impact of Sponsorship

A conversation for Rotary members with Rotary members

You can be a bridge to safety for a Ukrainian family

We are excited to welcome Rotary clubs across the country to a live informational session about private sponsorship for Ukrainians seeking refuge in the United States. Through the Uniting for Ukraine program, Rotary and Rotary Clubs and members in the U.S. can sponsor a person or a family that is seeking refuge from the war and help them find safety in the United States.

Register today to join Welcome.US, Rotarian sponsors Dan Parks (NC) and Doug Lee (IL), and a Ukrainian family who found safety in the U.S. because of Rotary members just like you. The session will explore more about what sponsorship entails and how your Club can be a bridge to safety for a Ukrainian family now.

During this live and interactive session, you will learn more about:

  • What it means to sponsor
  • How Welcome.US supports sponsors throughout their journey
  • How to qualify for financial support, including up to $3,000 in grants or flights
  • What the process is to become a sponsor

Plus, you’ll get a chance to watch a live demo of our Welcome Connect platform and participate in a Q&A session.

“This journey to sponsorship is the most my club has ever been involved in a service project.”
Heather Stoa, Rotarian, Illinois
“I can’t describe the sense of satisfaction you get from helping families who’ve faced so much. I would encourage as many of my fellow Rotary members as feel able to check out this opportunity.”
Daniel Parks, Rotarian, North Carolina
“I knew this project would change the families’ lives,” I tell them. “What I didn’t know is that it would change mine, too.”
Doug Lee, Rotarian, Illinois

Rotary Sponsorship Stories

Dan Parks, Assistant Governor, Rotary Club of Wilmington East, North Carolina, USA

Dan’s story

See how Rotary members in North Carolina rallied around displaced Ukrainians mothers. “News spreads fast with family, friends, and neighbors. Everyone wants to help. One retired Rotarian is a dentist and is taking care of their dental needs. Neighbors have come up with dishes, cookware, bedding forks, knives, and much more,” Dan said.

Doug's experience

In "Rotary Voices," Doug explained some of the important tasks that sponsors do to help newcomers. "When we reflect, we marvel at our community’s generosity and how lovingly it has embraced our new friends. We smile at what we’ve helped accomplish in less than five months," he shared.

Patrick Curely, Rotary Club of Dixon, Illinois

Patrick’s contribution

Patrick and his wife helped to secure resources to support the Ukrainian newcomers they welcomed. "My wife and I are both retired teachers, and though we don’t have a lot of money, we have a couple of empty bedrooms. We also have access to plenty of resources through our involvement with Rotary International, Scouting, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and membership in several veterans associations as a former U.S. Marine," Patrick explained.
