One success story. Thousands more to come.
Lolav spent years working toward U.S. citizenship. Susie helped her prepare for the final steps. Together they studied civics, practiced interview questions, and built a friendship that stretched from Massachusetts to Tennessee.
In April 2026, Lolav became a U.S. citizen—with Susie standing beside her.
Across America, thousands of aspiring citizens are working toward that same moment. You could be the person who helps someone reach it.
They've done the hard work. Now they need someone in their corner.
Earning U.S. citizenship isn't a single moment—it's years of commitment, paperwork, interviews, and preparation.
The people pursuing citizenship through the Citizen Guide program have already chosen the legal path. They've built lives in America, contributed to their communities, and worked hard for the opportunity to become U.S. citizens.
But even after years of perseverance, many reach the final stretch without the support they need.
That's where you come in. One hour a week can change someone's life.
Citizen Guides are trained volunteers who support aspiring Americans during the final steps toward citizenship. You don't need to be an immigration expert. We'll provide the training. You'll provide the encouragement.
On a long, hard road, one person can make all the difference.

What is the Citizen Guide experience?
We make it simple. Here’s how.
- Choose how you'd like to help. Pick from citizenship test tutoring, conversational English practice, or mock citizenship interview practice (see the three roles below).
- Receive training, resources, and guidance directly through our virtual platform. No experience required.
- Get matched one-on-one with an aspiring American who is learning and preparing for the citizenship exam.
- Provide support by hosting one-hour virtual sessions with your learner. About an hour a week, for around 10 weeks.
Share ideas, ask questions, and receive support through volunteer office hours and direct engagement with our team.
I'm in such a privileged position to be able to help [green card holders] finally achieve this dream that they have. I've seen countless people that have [passed their exams], and I can only imagine how much joy they're filled with and how much relief they have… to be a part of that is just something that I can't put into words. I would just really emphasize how great this work is."

Working toward U.S. citizenship?
If you have a green card and are preparing to take the citizenship exam, we can match you with a Citizen Guide. It’s all online with a platform of your choice, on your schedule.
