Cities of all sizes are welcoming newcomers fleeing economic, climate, and political upheaval. While often outside of the national spotlight, many small and medium-sized cities have recently welcomed newcomers in greater numbers. By building a practice of and capacity for welcoming in these communities, we aim to strengthen the environment necessary for nurturing participation in private sponsorship programs over time.
Over the past three years, the Welcome Fund has invested in local communities committed to building durable volunteer infrastructures that scale the number of Americans welcoming newcomers seeking safety and a fresh start. We’ve seen that our nation’s capacity to welcome grows when we leverage the generosity of everyday people in our communities.
The Welcome Fund is launching its third All of Us grant opportunity to support community-based organizations in small and medium-sized cities that are building strong volunteer programs to assist newcomers as they begin their lives in the United States. By expanding the capacity of community-based organizations to deeply engage volunteers, we seek to strengthen the fabric of support for newcomers and build an enduring spirit of welcome.
The Welcome Fund will commit a maximum of $1 million to non-resettlement agency (RA) organizations operating in metropolitan areas under 2 million people.
Each award will provide a one-year grant to an organization that actively and deeply engages volunteers to provide services to newcomers who have arrived to the United States in the past two years, principally through U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, sponsorship, and humanitarian pathways. We are looking for organizations that involve community members as volunteers assisting with core resettlement needs, such as English language tutoring, transportation, housing, household/clothing assistance, employment support/upskilling, cultural integration, and childcare.
Grant awards will be between $25,000-50,000.
