Categorical humanitarian parole program

*A categorical humanitarian parole program, also known as private sponsorship parole program, is a type of humanitarian parole that applies to a specific group of people, rather than being decided on a case-by-case basis. These designations are created in response to particular crises, such as war, natural disasters, or political instability, and allow individuals from designated populations to apply for parole under a streamlined process with shared criteria. Past examples include programs for Ukrainians, Afghans, or Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans.

  • Each type of categorical humanitarian parole program comes with its own specific eligibility requirements. For example, both the U4U and CHNV parole programs require U.S. based financial sponsors.
