Julianne & Pash

“My dad was adopted and he recently found out that he is of Ho-Chunk descent. We’ve been learning about our American Indian heritage. It has been enlightening.”

Julianne’s story:

I’m Ho-Chunk out of Wisconsin and then I’ve got Swedish, Swiss, Irish and German ancestry. My dad is from here in Minnesota, born and raised in St. Paul.

What’s been passed down to me? Swedish pancakes and a lot of the Swedish cooking. My dad was adopted and he recently found out that he is of Ho-Chunk descent. We’ve been learning about our American Indian heritage. That’s been huge. They’re all really close and very prideful of their heritage and to their native lands. It’s been enlightening for me to familiarize myself with a culture that I knew very little about but that I have a deep connection to.

Pash’s story:

My mom was raised here in Minnesota. I have some Serbian roots and I have some Russian roots, and I’m, like, one percent Irish, if that counts. Oh, I am also Austrian. I don’t feel like my family celebrates much of our heritage but I feel like they’ve passed it down in the right way to me by making this beautiful human being [laughs].

All of our stories are a part of the American Story. What's Yours?
